La Mer Océane

This site aims to present in the same database, biographical information and documentary information on a major event of the last two millennia of our era, the discovery and conquest of America, and on its actors.

Queries will allow access to lists of characters, depending on various criteria: their role (or function) in the conquista, their date of arrival in America, their geographical origin, their social status, place of death and its cause (this to highlight the violent nature of the event). There will also be elements on regional history of the American continent, and elements of bibliography, as well as general articles on various topics.

We would like this site to be cooperative and trilingual. Those who wish may submit proposals for articles, or the translations. A call for help in these translations is already launched.

A place will be made, as broad as possible, to the "resistants", representatives of these peoples subjected and decimated. Their history remains to be written. Apart from the larger ones, such as Moctezuma y Atahualpa, whose name are well known, we will try to quote the small "caciques", "curacas" or local leaders whose names are mentioned over the pages of the chronicles of the 16th century.
